A pleasant afternoon with John Holwell walking (or letting John drive me round) the former Chathill – Seahouses alignment. We both believe this should be re-instated as a point to point tram or light rail connection. It wouldn’t be difficult, there are very few problems on the original alignment that could not be overcome with a light rail solution. We envisage electric vehicles with rapid charger facilities at both ends. But first we need a regular, minimum hourly, service at Seahouses.. John and I have slightly different views as to how to get that though we both have the same objective. The SENRUG position is to have a new service between Newcastle and Berwick, calling at all stations, minimum frequency hourly in each direction. See our campaign page here. Get a decent service to Chathill, then the Seahouses – Chathill link looks very viable. Meanwhile, I can vouch for the fact that to get from Bedlington to Seahouses takes 2 and a half hours each way by bus!
