I was pleased to note today that my article on the “Failure of Rail Franchising” has now been published on Railfuture’s website at https://www.railfuture.org.uk/article1822-Multifranchise-disservice. The article points out the current franchising regime does not attempt to co-ordinate two or more operators running over the same route as happens between Newcastle and Edinburgh; thus neither operator offers a coherent timetable that allows travel between the intermediate stations of Morpeth, Alnmouth and Berwick. It is hoped Railfuture will use this and other examples from elsewhere in the country as part of its evidence submitted to the Williams Review
