.Just when you thought it was safe to get back in the water (ie travel abroad), quarantine has been re-introduced for passengers returning from Spain. The alacrity of the re-introduction will surely kill not just holidays in Spain, but any European country as hapless travellers consider the same could happen with whatever country they choose. So, what to do? Where to go? Enter the UK holiday. A golden opportunity for our own tourist industry. Yet the government just doesn’t seem to understand that some people don’t want to take their cars and prefer the comfort of train travel to their chosen destination. Obviously, peak-hour demand still has to be managed very carefully and social distancing observed, but surely it is now time for the government and rail industry together to take a more welcoming approach to off-peak leisure travel on our rail network, and start to pro-actively win passengers back?
