Hourly Service to Resume at Cramlington

Our thanks to Ian Levy MP for Blyth Valley, who intervened after SENRUG pointed out to him that government-owned Northern had still not re-instated the full pre-Covid hourly service at Cramlington, and indeed could not announce a date when they would do so. Our view was that Northern had no management focus on the issue and had certainly not been able to share any kind of project plan showing when their recruitment or driver training programmes would allow them to do so. But Minister of State Wendy Moreton has responded to Mr Levy saying the hourly service is back in the timetable as from December 2022. And indeed it is. See the correspondence from SENRUG to Mr Levy and the reply from Ms Moreton here.

  1. A belated thanks for your efforts on the restoration of hourly services at Cramlington. I sometimes wonder whether the neglect of rail provision, a reluctance to resite the station to the south and the lack of proper public transport integration at Cramlington is deliberate. Maybe it’s a consequence of miners from West Cramlington derailing the Flying Scotsman in 1926 during the General Strike!
