Very useful catch-up today with Jamie Driscoll, North of Tyne Mayor, discussing our visions for public transport in the North East, which were remarkably similar. We particularly appreciated Jamie’s commitment to integrated, smartcard ticketing across all forms of public transport. Keith Simpson, Chair of Railfuture North East branch, accompanied me. The new mayoral authority to be established on 2nd May will have responsibility for the whole North East region, rather than just North of Tyne, and will include public transport policy too.
